1. Baker Hughes: the number of oil and gas drilling rig operations in the United States increased for the ninth consecutive week

Data released by Baker Hughes, a US energy service company, on Friday showed that the number of us oil and gas drilling rig operations increased for the ninth consecutive week, mainly due to the response of small drilling companies to high oil prices and the government’s call for production increase.

As of the week of May 20, the number of oil and gas drilling rigs operated in the United States increased by 14 to 728, the highest since March 2020, an increase of 273 (60%) over the same period last year.

More than half of the U.S. oil rigs are located in the Permian Basin in West Texas and Eastern New Mexico. This week, the number of oil rigs in the region increased by 8 to 343, the highest since April 2020.

 

2. ADNOC announced the discovery of 650 million barrels of oil

The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) of the United Arab Emirates announced in a statement on its twitter page that it had found a number of onshore oil with a total reserves of 650 million barrels.

ADNOC outlined in its statement that these discoveries include 500 million barrels of oil from Abu Dhabi’s most continental oil field Bu hasa, about 100 million barrels of oil from onshore block 3, and about 50 million barrels of oil from the Al dhafra oil concession.

 

3. Shell failed to make commercial discoveries in its exploration in Brazil

Marcelo de Assis, head of upstream research in Latin America at wood Mackenzie Ltd., a consultancy, said last week that shell had drilled three exploration wells in Brazil in the past three years, but had not found any commercial volume. Shell and its partners paid slightly more than $1 billion for exploration rights in three blocks. So far, all blocks acquired by shell have been unsuccessful and experienced a series of failures similar to ExxonMobil. ExxonMobil has also drilled three non-commercial wells in Brazilian waters since the end of 2020, costing $1.6 billion.

 

4. Two Norwegian operators were allowed to conduct offshore drilling operations

The Norwegian Petroleum Authority (NPD) revealed on Monday that two Norwegian oil and gas companies – equinor and Aker BP – have obtained drilling licenses from Norwegian authorities for three initial exploration wells off the coast of Norway. The drilling operation will be carried out by two rigs owned by ODFJELL drilling.

 

5. The United States will release the proposed offshore oil and gas leasing plan by the end of June

Us Interior Secretary Haaland told the Senate last week that the US authorities will disclose the proposed offshore leasing project by June 30, which will outline possible US oil / gas sales.
